LOHEAC, France (September 6, 2015) The Olsbergs MSE team sent two drivers through to Semifinals at the FIA World RX of France on Sunday during a strong weekend of rallycross action in front of a massive crowd of nearly 75,000 fans at the Loheac circuit.
“I enjoy this game of hard battles from early morning to late evening,” Olsbergs MSE driver Andreas Bakkerud said. “Here in France is probably the most enthusiastic audience of the year. It’s just unbelievable.”
Staged in the small Breton village of Loheac in northwestern France, a total of 37 flame-spitting Supercars entered the ninth round of the World Rallycross Championship. The Loheac circuit is known as the temple of Rallycross — a track designed as an arena with full visibility around the circuit — and it attracts one of the biggest crowds of the season.
Bakkerud and Namus OMSE driver Timur Timerzyanov each advanced from the heats, but Bakkerud punctured the rear right tire in his Olsbergs MSE Ford Fiesta ST during a first-corner tangle in Semifinal 1, while Timerzyanov suffered a puncture on his Red Bull/Viatti Ford Fiesta ST in Semifinal 2.
Teammate Reinis Nitiss had some fast lap times and strong heat finishes but just missed the cut for Semifinals.
Following this weekend’s performance, Bakkerud is fourth overall in the Supercar championship standings behind Petter Solberg, Timmy Hansen and Johan Kristoffersson. Nitiss is seventh, and Timerzyanov is ranked 10th. The event was the ninth of 13 rounds this season.
“We have four events remaining towards the championship and we’re looking for some big wins,” said Bakkerud.
Ford OMSE is currently second in the teams ranking, behind Team Peugeot-Hansen, and is aiming to gain ground at the remaining events.
Next, the series heads to Spain, September 18-20, for the World RX of Barcelona, followed by events in Turkey, Italy, and Argentina. Before then, the Red Bull Global Rallycross team of Sebastian Eriksson and Joni Wiman will race their Red Bull / Bluebeam Ford Fiestas in a doubleheader Los Angeles event September 12-13.
