NYNÄSHAMN, Sweden (April 28, 2014) – Championship winning Olsbergs MSE extends its commitment to developing future rallycross stars this season with a full slate of Lites and Supercar drivers this season in the RallyX Scandinavia series.
“At Olsbergs MSE, we believe in the future of rallycross,” said team owner Andreas Eriksson. “We discover young, talented drivers and help them to realize their potential by giving them the best coaching and equipment. That’s how we’re going to build future stars in the sport.”
Kevin Eriksson, who finished runner-up in the RallyX Lites division last season and took the win in the World RX Lites cup, graduates to the top class for a full season in a Supercar in the RallyX Scandinavia series.
The Olsbergs MSE team will enter a second Supercar in the series that will open the season with defending champion Sebastian Eriksson behind the wheel. He will share driving duties in the car with other Olsbergs MSE team drivers who are slated to make guest appearances in the championship.
In the Lites class, Olsbergs MSE will field newcomer Sandra Hultgren, as well as 16-year-old Oliver Eriksson – who is the younger brother to Kevin.
Hultgren will campaign in both RX Lites and the RallyX Lites series. At age 22, she is a rare woman in motorsport. She has been competing in regional Folkrace competitions since age 15.
Oliver Eriksson said he is excited to have a full calendar of races ahead of him this season. He will also travel overseas to mount his first full campaign on the U.S. based Red Bull Global Rallycross Championship. “Lites is the best school for future Supercar stars and it’s awesome to be a part of the future of motorsport,” he said. “Lites prepares you on every level in rallycross.”
In addition to its commitment to the RallyX series, the leading team also campaigns class-of-the-field Ford Fiesta ST rallycross supercars in the FIA World RX series as well as the Global Rallycross Championship. The team has a proven track record of promoting its development drivers into championship contention in major series.
The RallyX Scandinavia season gets underway May 10 with the opening round at Skövde Flygplats. The championship features five rounds, including an exciting season-ender alongside the STCC series in Solvalla.
The Olsbergs MSE organization originally developed the Lites vehicle as a strictly controlled spec vehicle to provide a platform to showcase the talent of emerging young drivers. Constructed in Istanbul, Turkey, in partnership with Avitas Motorsport, the 310 horsepower, all-wheel drive feature a naturally aspirated 2.4-liter engine and a sequential gearbox. The Lites class is growing rapidly around the world and is now part of the RallyX series, as well as Red Bull Global Rallycross and World RX.
In 2015, OMSE’s multi-series campaigns in rallycross are guided by the new team slogan “Extreme Forces,” representing their united worldwide challenge for rallycross dominance. Fans can follow the team across social media platforms using the #OMSE #XForces hashtags.
The OMSE organization is led by Eriksson, himself a championship rally driver and veteran rallycross driver. He is supported by Chief Financial Officer Jan-Erik Steen and three-time European Rallycross Champion Jussi Pinomäki.
Rallycross is a blend of circuit racing, off-road racing and rally competition. It promises intense crowd-pleasing action in a fan-friendly track environment. As many as 10 drivers line up to start at once, piloting high-horsepower compact cars through race traffic over a challenging short course that features jumps, unbanked turns, hills and transitions between pavement and gravel. It is sometimes described as an action motorsport and is emerging as the top youth-market motorsport in the world.
